Litomyšl
The town of LITOMYŠL is the birthplace of the great Czech composer, Bedřich Smetana, whose name has been given to the traditional opera festival that takes place in this charming town each year. In the second half of the 16th century the aristocratic Pernštejn family had the original Medieval castle converted into a Renaissance chateau. The chateau, included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage sites, is an outstanding example of original Italian arcade construction adapted to the Czech context and its style exemplifies a typical aristocratic residence in the period of the Central European Renaissance. Besides
the chateau there are other sites worth visiting - the Baroque Piarist church, the Gothic Provost church, the Cloister Garden and others.
